Metal Hand Art
Design & Instructions by Pattie Donham, Host of Craft Studios
Create a whimsical accent for your garden fence with Metal Hand Art made from aluminum sheeting and painted a copper patina.
Supplies:
Aluminum Sheeting (20” x 36”)
Krylon® Copper Brilliance
Krylon® Interior/Exterior Paint (2015 Teal Green Gloss)
Krylon® Interior/Exterior Paint (1604 Shadow Gray)
Krylon® Clear Sealer
Permanent Marker
Tin Snips
Rubber Mallet
Plastic Bag
Disposable Gloves
Staple Gun
Steps:
1. Enlarge pattern to 20” x 36”. Trace onto aluminum sheeting, using a permanent marker.
2. Cut out the hand, using tin ships or heavy-duty scissors. Wear gloves for your protection from sharp edges.
3. Lay the hand on a bumpy surface such as coarse asphalt or gravel. Beat the aluminum hand with a rubber mallet to achieve texture on the surface of the hand.
4. Spray the entire hand with Copper paint, in a well-ventilated area, preferably outside. Cover the work surface to protect from overspray. Let dry.
5. Wearing disposable gloves, lightly spray a 12-inch area with Shadow Gray, and while it is wet, spray Teal Green. Crumple a plastic bag and pounce into the wet paint to create a patina effect. Repeat over the entire hand.
6. Spray a fine mist of Copper over the entire hand. To protect the surface from weathering, spray with clear sealer.
7. Staple the completed hand art to the fence for some fun & funky yard art!
